Installing Ubuntu on the Intel Core i5 3550

The Intel Core i5 3550 uses the Intel HD 4000 processor integrated graphics. Several operating systems, including Ubuntu have compatibility issues with this graphics chipset. The default install will display a black screen and will show an error via KVM after 30 seconds causing the KVM to disconnect.

Resolution:

When installing Ubuntu, after the initial language selection, press "F6" to display the additional install options and enable the "nomodeset" option. This will force the basic video driver which is 100% compatible with the server.

If you continue to have issues, please open a support ticket.
